All SCC students and faculty are pre-approved for an online login to Kanopy and other SPL digital resources

Getting a Spokane Public Library number and PIN

As an SCC student, regardless of where you reside, you are pre-approved for a Spokane Public Library card number and PIN.

With this login, you can access from home most of the SPL digital collections (streaming videos, ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and more)!  [Already have an SPL card? Just use your card to access SPL's Digital collections including Kanopy streaming videos.]

Form iconIf you don't already have a card number for SPL, follow these instructions to immediately get your number and PIN: 

1. Go to Sign Up for a New Library Card (Spokane Public Library)

2. Log in using your Staff or Student (Bigfoot) email.

3. The first time you use the Spokane Public Library app, you will be directed to an account setup screen. Input your contact information.

4. Choose a preferred contact method.

5. Set a PIN.

6. Click Submit - You will automatically be logged into the catalog!

7. Click the Profile tab on the right-hand menu to view your newly issued Spokane Public Library barcode! **You will need this number to login to all SPL digital resources like Kanopy and Hoopla!

You may now use your number and PIN to access SPL's Digital collections. 


Questions or issues? 

If your card number and PIN do not immediately work after completing the application, you need to contact Spokane Public Library staff. Tell them you're an SCC student. (Don't attempt to apply for a card number and PIN more than once.)

Kanopy Streaming Video

Kanopy streams media from any computer, television, mobile device or platform by downloading the Kanopy app for iOS, Android, AppleTV, Chromecast or Roku.

Public Screenings: Many films from Kanopy come with Public Performance Rights (PPR). Viewing films in a group forum is permitted as long as the viewing is by authorized viewers and it is not for commercial benefit (i.e. no admission costs are charged and no profit is made from the screening)." - Spokane Public Library (SPL)

Accessing Kanopy

  • Create a Spokane Public Library Card by following the instructions on this web page
  • Once you've created a SPL card number you have to register for a separate Kanopy account at their website.
    • You will need the SPL card number you just created and your personal email address.
    • Once you've created a SPL card number and Kanopy account you can access streaming videos in Kanopy through their app or website.

Important Things to Know About Kanopy

  • You are limited to borrowing 8 total titles (credits) per month*. Credits renew on the first of each month. 
    *Kanopy Kids and Great Courses videos do not use credits.
  • Films can be viewed for 72 hours.
  • If you watch 5 seconds or more of a film it will count towards your total of 8 titles per month.
  • Videos cannot be downloaded at this time. 
  • You can create clips and organize them in a playlist.
  • Full accessibility: Kanopy meets all accessibility standards-all films have captions and transcripts and are compatible with and visual impairment technologies.

Hoopla

Hoopla is a digital media service offered by the Spokane Public Library that allows you to borrow movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks, comics and TV shows to enjoy on your computer, device, or TV.
